13. October 2026: I saw a cat get chased by turkeys

Statistics was okay. We just took a test and it was pretty easy tbh. Then my mom drove me to the library so I could do some homework because it was really cold. I finished my homework for Marine Science and I probably should have done my German homework but I got distracted and made a zine, so… (I made a post about it here). Basically half of it is halftone and black and white, and then you flip it over and the other half is in color with a halftone overlay.

Then I walked back to the high school and went to Economics. It was just a lecture, pretty uneventful. My mom, my sister, and I went home after doing some grocery shopping at Aldi. I finished my zine and had some mashed potatoes for dinner.

I decided to call my zines requiem because I really like that word. I first saw it on a perfume bottle, and then I looked it up and found out it meant “mass for the dead” and I got really excited because I thought that this was like some ritual or something which honored all the dead but nope just a funeral. So that was kinda disappointing. I was expecting it to mean something like “place of solitude and profound peace” so… still kinda sour about that one, English, but whatever. It’s so elegant so I feel like it should mean something more than “funeral” but it still sounds cool anyways.

Speaking of funerals, my favorite Emily Dickinson poem currently is “I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,” (340). If you like poetry and haven’t read it before you should look it up. It’s been my latest poetic obsession for a while now.

I’ve printed off four of these so far (it was supposed to be five, but I messed up the folding on one). I think I will keep one and leave the other three in the teen section of the library or something.

Also on my walk back to school I witnessed a scene straight from Flow unfold irl. I was getting near the school, and this black-grey cat came over the hill with some creature dangling from its mouth. Idk what it was, maybe a mouse but I think it was a fish from the way it flopped around (also on the other side of the hill there is a river). But anyways the cat went out into the road and walked down the middle of it for a while, and then moved onto the sidewalk in front of me because a car pulled out.

Then the cat and I approached this congregation of turkeys. As soon as he got to the edge of it the cat slowed. The turkeys froze for a minute, their eyes locked on the fish as he slowly crept through them, and then it was like someone snapped their fingers and the cat bolted and the turkeys ran after him and then he must have darted under someone’s deck because they stopped.

Then I had to walk by them and I was lowkey kinda scared because I have seen people get chased by turkeys on multiple occasions (we have a lot of turkeys by our school for some reason, for context) and I was literally three feet away from them, if that. But they didn’t chase me thankfully, though one was kinda eyeing me up like he thought that I maybe had a fish too. I didn’t even know turkeys ate fish until today. But yeah apparently they are omnivores.
